Cancellations & Refunds

DRE Cancellation and Refund Policy

Published: 13 October 2026

This policy applies to purchases from Dan’s Real English (DRE). It should be read alongside our Terms and Conditions. Nothing here limits rights that cannot legally be excluded.

1. How to request a cancellation

Email dan@dansrealenglish.com with your name, the service purchased, the purchase date and your request. You may use any clear statement of cancellation; a particular form is not required. We will acknowledge the request and explain the applicable refund. You may also use the optional cancellation form at the end of this policy.

2. Statutory cancellation rights for online purchases

For most online contracts for services, eligible UK consumers have 14 days from the day after the contract is made to cancel without giving a reason, subject to applicable exceptions. Different rules apply to digital content and some specified-date services. We will explain any relevant exception before purchase and will not assume that a fixed teaching timetable automatically removes the cancellation right.

If you expressly ask us to begin providing a service during the statutory cancellation period and then cancel within that period, we may charge a proportionate amount for the service already provided where the legal conditions are met. If the law requires a full refund, we will provide it. We will issue refunds within the period required by applicable law, normally 14 days after being informed of a valid statutory cancellation.

For digital content supplied immediately, any loss of the statutory cancellation right will apply only where all required express consent, acknowledgement and confirmation requirements have been met. Your rights if content is faulty remain unaffected.

3. Six-week group speaking courses

Groups normally run with a minimum of two and maximum of six learners, and DRE normally confirms whether the course will run seven days before the first lesson. Your place is confirmed only after approval and verified payment. An unpaid provisional reservation may expire after 48 hours, as specified in your invitation.

Approved learners may join after the course begins if a place is available. The amount payable is based on the current full-course price, divided by the total number of scheduled lessons and multiplied by the lessons remaining at the time of enrolment; the actual amount is confirmed before payment. If DRE cancels the entire course before it begins, we will refund the full amount paid or offer an alternative that you may freely choose. If a scheduled lesson is cancelled by DRE, we will seek to rearrange it at a reasonable time; where that is not possible or appropriate, we will provide an appropriate refund or remedy.

If you miss a lesson that runs as scheduled, there is normally no automatic refund or replacement session. Please tell us if you expect to miss a lesson.

If you withdraw outside any applicable statutory cancellation period, we will consider a fair refund taking account of lessons already delivered, reasonable costs and genuine loss resulting from the cancellation, including whether the place can reasonably be filled. We will not automatically keep the entire course fee merely because the course has started.

4. Individual coaching and feedback appointments

The booking confirmation will state the number and length of sessions and the agreed scheduling arrangements. You may rearrange an individual session without charge by giving at least 24 hours’ notice, subject to a suitable alternative appointment being available. With less than 24 hours’ notice, or if you do not attend, the session will normally count as used, although DRE may make reasonable exceptions for emergencies. These rules do not apply to fixed-date group lessons. For six-week individual coaching packages, sessions should normally be completed within three calendar months of the agreed programme start date, with reasonable extensions where appropriate. Sessions will not expire because DRE is unable to provide agreed or suitable replacement appointments. Statutory cancellation rights remain unaffected.

If DRE cannot provide a booked session, we will offer a suitable replacement or the refund or other remedy to which you are entitled.

5. Problems with a service or course

If a service is not provided with reasonable care and skill, or digital content does not meet applicable statutory standards, please contact us. We will consider the appropriate remedy under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other applicable law. This policy does not exclude statutory rights.

6. Refund method and international learners

Where practicable, refunds will be made using the original payment method. Applicable mandatory consumer rights in a learner’s country of residence may also apply.
